I thought it might be useful to knock up a page that talks about the Oils, Filters, Coolants, and Additives I use.

I’ll start with Engine Oil. If you have an original engine, as I do, you’ll want to use a Premium Mineral Oil that has a high Zinc content (for wear protection) with the correct weight, and not this modern Synthetic/Semi-synthetic stuff with detergents for example. Specifically I use Penrite Classic Mini 20W-50. It is available from Repco, SKU: A9515004.

The Oil Filter I like to use is the ACDelco AC03. It is a Full Flow type, the same as the original GM Oil Filter, Part# 89061259. Obviously you can use other brands like the Ryco Z30, but using the ACDelco brand feeds into my desire to have things period correct, or at least a throw back to the era.

When it comes to Engine Coolant, I use Repco Green Coolant Premix 5L – Part# RPREGREEN05. It is is safe for vehicles which require a premium Type A Hybrid Green coolant, and is the equivalent of both GM 1825M/1899M, and HOLDEN HN2043 coolants. It is available from Repco, SKU: A5430000.

When it comes to Transmission Fluid, I use Castrol Transmax ATF Dex/Merc Multi-vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid. It is a direct replacement for the original Dexron (GMH spec) Transmission Fluid. It is available from Repco, SKU: A5691649.

Last but not least, I like to use a Fuel Additive. Being an original engine that used to run on Leaded Fuel which lubricates the Valve/Valve Seats, I just don’t want to run the risk of burning out the Valves/Valve Seats, so I use Flashlube Valve Saver. It is available from Repco, SKU: A8228752.

Speaking of fuel, even though there is a Fuel Filter at the entry point of the fuel line inside the Rochester Carby, I have also fitted an inline fuel filter at the input to the Fuel Pump. There are many brands and types, but I prefer those that are clear plastic rather than the metal type. The reason for this is that it makes it easier to see and know when it’s time to replace the filter. I use the Ryco Z4 Multi-Fit Fuel Filter.
